Next Steps & Project Ideas

If you've done a course with us, and made a few lovely items, you may be wondering what's next? Do we run intermediate courses?

Well, what's next is... everything! Once you have knowledge of the basic hand-building techniques, you can quite literally make anything you can imagine out of ceramics for your home and garden.

We don't run specific intermediate courses, as the likelihood is that it wouldn't run on a day of the week that suited everyone, so any of our 6-week courses are suitable for progressing your pottery to the intermediate level and beyond!

To give you an idea of what is on offer with our classes, we have mapped out various levels that you can pick and choose from to progress your skills and knowledge. The times are approximate, as obviously everyone works at different speeds and has different skill levels, but it gives you an idea.

There are obviously many decorative techniques that can be explored in addition to making the pottery forms, and if you want to make something that isn't on the list, then of course you are welcome to talk to us about making that too!

Levels

Level 1

These are all quick and simple projects you can make easily in 30 mins - 1hr.

Perfect if you have a short amount of time left at the end of a session.

Level 4

These projects take approximately 6 hours+. They will be more technical, are generally larger, and will have more places where things can go wrong.

You will need to have done a course or two before attempting one of these.

Level 2

These projects take approximately 2 ½ - 3 ½ hours (around 1 - 2 lessons).

They are all suitable for complete beginners.

Level 5

Level 5 projects are very difficult. If we attempted these ourselves, we wouldn't feel bad if they didn't work perfectly, as they are technical and there are many elements that can go wrong.

Some may take a long time, others don't but require a lot of technical expertise.

Level 3

These projects take approximately 5 - 6 hours (2+ lessons).

They can be completed by a competent beginner or someone who has done a course before.

Decoration Inspiration

There are so many different ways you can enhance you pottery with decoration.

Underglaze techniques like sgraffito, adding sprigs, carving, wax or paper resist, the possibilities are endless.

We also have lots of ways you can cheat if you can't draw!
