Hot Fox Pottery were brilliant! We had a team session and it was an absolute joy from start to finish. The welcome was so warm and the instructions were clear and encouraging. It's rare to find an activity that gets a whole team fully engaged and smiling, but this did exactly that. Couldn't recommend it more highly!

OUR SIGNATURE POTTERY EXPERIENCE

Sgraffito coffee-cup/plant-pot/tealight-holder

(2 hours)

In this beginner-friendly workshop you will be guided through the process of making a pinch-pot, which you can then choose to turn into a high-quality stoneware coffee cup, plant pot or tea-light holder.

If you have time you will be able to decorate your pot with coloured slips and the sgraffito (carving) technique, which makes every pot completely unique!

COST: £45 per person (including firing and glazing of the pots.) Pots can be collected or posted for a small fee after the workshop.

ADD A POTTERY ICEBREAKER GAME

Our fun 'Clay Consequences' icebreaker game is a great way to start the workshop off, and get participants feeling relaxed with each other and confident with the clay.

Using air-dry clay, teams will make various sculpted elements of a clay person or creature, which they will combine into an absurd monster that will dry out and can be kept as a memento of the day.

Team-Building FAQ

How many people can join a team-building pottery workshop?

Our signature workshop is designed for groups of 6 to 20 people. If your team is smaller than 6 or larger than 20, don't be put off; get in touch and we'll discuss options. For larger groups we can teach a slightly different project or run multiple sessions.

Where do the workshops take place?

Small groups of 6–8 can come to our lovely loft studio in Brighton, which has good transport links and free on-street parking. We can also travel to your office or a venue of your choice (within a 50 mile radius), or we can host you at one of our partner venues in Brighton town centre where food and drinks packages can be arranged too. We're happy to advise on the best setup for your group. Partner venues include the Grand Central near Brighton Station, The Park View near Preston Park (fully accessible) and Clementine & Co. in the South Lanes.

Do we get to keep what we make?

Yes! Every piece is yours to keep. The models you make in the icebreaker activity are made of air-dry clay, so these will dry out and can be taken away on the day or displayed in your office! The pottery pieces you make will be taken away by us to be fired and glazed, which typically takes 4 - 6 weeks. You can then collect from our Brighton studio or we can arrange delivery for a small fee.

Do you travel outside Brighton?

Yes, we regularly travel to offices and venues across Sussex, Surrey, and the South East. For travel outside of Brighton we may need to add a small travel supplement, which we'll always confirm upfront before you book.

How far in advance do we need to book?

The further in advance you book the better, but we sometimes have short-notice availability, so it's well worth getting in touch to see if we can accommodate you.

What is your booking/ cancellation policy?

We require a 50% deposit upon booking to secure the date, with the remaining 50% due a month before the event. If you cancel your event more than 28 days before the start date then a full refund will be issued (less a 3% admin fee). After this no refunds will be given, (this also goes for individual drop outs), but we can try to move you to a different day.

Is pottery a good activity for team wellbeing?

Of course! Pottery is one of the most effective mindful activities you can bring into a workplace context. Working with clay demands a particular kind of focused attention: hands-on, tactile, and absorbing; that naturally engages people and takes them away from their screens. Unlike many team activities, it doesn't reward competitiveness or prior experience; it levels the playing field in a way that tends to bring quieter team members forward. Research into art-based and craft activities consistently links them to reduced stress levels, lower anxiety and improved mood, and the shared experience of making something with your hands tends to facilitate more genuine conversation between colleagues than a meeting room exercise ever could.
