Make a beautiful piece of ceramic art at my studio in Brighton
£40 per hour

If you are new to pottery, prefer a quieter learning environment, or would like to practice throwing or hand-building before committing to a class, then you can book a one-to-one session with me to have a go and get your hands dirty. What you make in the session is up to you, and we can discuss beforehand an estimate of how long such an object may take to make.

If you want to learn to throw on the wheel, it can be a good idea to have some one-to-one teaching at the start to get to grips with the basics. I can also try to link you up with another student for two-to-one throwing workshop, which can help bring down the cost.
Once you know the basics, there is then the option to book independent studio time if you want to continue to practice throwing.
THROWING
I only have two wheels, so throwing sessions are only bookable for 2 people. The wheel can take time to learn, so if it's your first time throwing clay, you may need some help from me to make a serviceable piece that can be used and decorated! It's a lot of fun though, and great to give it a go and get a bit messy!

HAND-BUILDING
We can discuss what you would like to make beforehand, but examples could be a hand-built mug, bowl, plate, tiles, small sculpture etc...

You should have time to decorate the pieces you make, or you can choose a dipping glaze which I will apply after the first firing.
GROUP HAND-BUILDING
Hand-building workshops are done in small groups so you will get lots of individual attention. We can suggest projects that are easy to make in the time you have, or you can bring ideas of something you would like to make.

Depending on the length of your workshop, you may be able to decorate your pieces using underglazes and slips and various decorating techniques, or you can choose from a range of lovely dipping glazes which we will apply after the first firing.

If you are interested in making a 'body bits' mug, you can find out more about this here.
Booking
One-to-one, two-to-one and group sessions can be arranged at mutually convenient times, but they are more likely to be available in the day or at weekends than during the evenings.

The prices above include clay, a selection of glazes and firing costs. Parking is free on the street at weekends and at certain times on weekdays. I can also make space on my driveway for one car.

Postage costs will be extra (and is usually around £6 for a small piece, sent signed for delivery.)
